2010 Season Outlook Mueller adds another experienced arm to the back-end of the Beach Bums bullpen and really adds to the pitching depth. He is a tall right-hander that throws on a hard downward plane, which helps him get a lot ground balls, and he has a plus breaking ball. He has been a strikeout pitcher for his entire career and the Beach Bums expect him to be equally successful in the Frontier League.
Previous Experience Mueller, 23, signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 2007 after being selected in the a 21st round out of Arizona State University. The 6'4" right-hander only had to pitch one perfect inning in the rookie level Gulf Coast League before being promoted to the short season class-A Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League where he settled into the closer's role, locking down 5 saves in 21 appearances and striking out 37 batters in just 23 innings. In 2008, Mueller split the year between the class low-A Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League and the class high-A Frederick Keys of the Carolina League, accumulating 36.2 innings and 30 strikeouts on the year. Last summer, Mueller started the summer back in the New York-Penn League, but was promoted back to Delmarva after posting a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings, allowing just 10 hits and striking out 17 batters. For his three year professional career, Mueller owns a 4-5 record, 5.81 ERA, and 9 saves in 102.2 innings with 56 walks and 105 strikeouts.
