
7/10/2010 - NORMAL, IL-- Extra innings are beginning to feel like the norm for the Traverse City Beach Bums, as for the fourth night, fourth game in a row, the regulation nine innings ended in a tie Saturday night at the Corn Crib, in a game lasting 10 innings and 3 hours and 32 minutes. All-Star outfielder J.T. Hall stepped up to the plate in the top of the 10th inning and sent the ball over the wall for a solo home run, his second homerun of the night. In the bottom of the 10th the Beach Bums held strong, with a strike-out and a double play to end the inning and the game. J.T. Hall is pictured above in a John L. Russell file photo.
The Beach Bums exercised six pitching arms with the win, as starter Tony Bertucci went three innings before turning the ball over to Joey Parigi for one inning. Trent DeLazzer came in for three innings and held the CornBelters giving up no hits, no runs, no walks with one strikeout, sinking his ERA to 1.23. Jonny Bravo pitched a scoreless 8th, Richard Folmer a scoreless 9th, earning the win and Scott Mueller earning the save in the 10th. Greg Lane took the loss for Normal.
Traverse City posted 10 hits on the night to score their 5 runs. J.T. Hall lead the offense going 2-for-5, 2 homeruns. Chris Engell and Andrew Marshall both had 2 hits, while Matt Brown extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Defensively, the Beach Bums turned three key double-plays.
The Beach Bums and the CornBelters conclude the series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET with Kevin Reese (5-3, 3.10) on the mound for Traverse City against Ryan Sheldon (1-2, 3.14) for the Normal. The pregame show on Sunny Country 101.9 FM will begin at 5:40 pm ET. The Beach Bums return home from the All-Star break on July 16, a FANtastic Fireworks Friday & Senior Night sponsored by Priority Health, with a three game home series against in-state rivals, the Kalamazoo Kings.
