BEACH BUMS BREAK OUT THE BROOMS

6/28/2010 - TRAVERSE CITY, MI –- Enrique Lechuga and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Traverse City Beach Bums completed a sweep of the Kalamazoo Kings with a 1-0 win.

After pitching dominated the early going, the Beach Bums cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. C. J. Ziegler singled with one out. Two batters later, Andrew Marshall singled, moving Ziegler to second.
With two on and two out, Brandon Howard lined a ball into leftfield for a hit. Ziegler raced around third and slid around the tag of Steve Malvagna for a 1-0 TC lead.

Both starters were dominant in the game. Enrique Lechuga (2-3) tossed seven shutout innings allowing only two hits, walking one and struck out four. The lefthander allowed just two runners in scoring position on the night. Ulysses Roque and Scott Mueller were perfect in the eighth and ninth respectively to lock down the win. Josh Whitlock (0-4) was fantastic for Kalamazoo going 6.2 innings allowing one run.

Offensively for the Beach Bums, Andrew Marshall had the first multi-hit game of his career and J. T. Hall lined a seventh inning double down the first base line extending his hitting streak to 11 games, a new Traverse
City season high.

TC now heads out on the road to take on West Division leading Southern Illinois. Ryan Platt (3-1, 2.35) gets the game one start for the Beach Bums. The Miners starter has yet to be announced. Game time is set for 8:05 p.m. with the Budweiser Traverse City Beach Bums Pregame Show starting at 7:45 p.m. on Sunny Country 101.9 FM.
