6/27/2010 - WUERFEL PARK – Beach Bums’ fans get ready to take flight because we’ve got a soaring promotional event ready to take off for you! On Monday, June 28th, the Blue Angels crew will be paying a special visit to Wuerfel Park.
Each year, the Blue Angels’ aerobatic demonstrations entertain nearly 15 million people with heart-stopping maneuvers providing the thrill and fascination of flight to fanatics of all ages. We are honored to welcome these positive role models and friendly representatives of the US Navy and Marine Corps for a stay in Northern Michigan prior to their show during the National Cherry Festival.
“The Blue Angels crew was very generous with their time and support two years ago and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to roll out the red carpet for them and shower them with the support of the Beach Bums Nation,” said GM Leslye Wuerfel. Crewmembers will be spending some vacation time in Traverse City relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors before they begin preparation for their performance on Wednesday.
The Blue Angels perform between the months of March and November all across the United States. They are stationed at Forrest Sherman Field, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida during the season and they train at Naval Air Facility El Centro, California.
During a typical Blue Angels performance, there are many displays of choreographed flight skills. They demonstrate stylish aerobatic schemes in the four-plane Diamond Formation. In addition they showcase the maneuvers of two individual pilots that are high in technical difficulty. Lastly, the squadron performs the ultimate skill of precise flying, performing maneuvers as a six-jet unit in the Delta Formation.
Gates open at 5:05pm for this special event and the first pitch is set for 7:05pm as the Traverse City Beach Bums face the Kalamazoo Kings in the final game of their home stand. The Blue Angels will available for pictures and autographs prior to the game along the third base side of the field.
Don’t forget, June 28th is a Super Ticket Monday! Fans who purchase one chairback ticket will receive the second one for free! Help us as part of our Millionth Fan Challenge as we aim to be the first team in Frontier League history to welcome one million fans in our first five seasons!
