TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums(26-45) kept the game within striking distance until the Lake Erie Crushers(35-37), broke the game open late. The final score was 8-2.  

Lake Erie got on the board first when, with one out in the first inning, Jordan Dean hit a solo home run that cleared the left field wall. They doubled their advantage in the top of the second with a Bryan DeLaRosa RBI double. Kendall Patrick and John Montgomery led off the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles, then Jeremy Stidham walked to load the bases. The Beach Bums picked up a single run when Patrick scored on a double play.

In the sixth, Lake Erie regained a two run lead when DeLaRosa hit an RBI single. The Crushers added on in the seventh when Josh McAdams hit an RBI single and DeLaRosa got his third RBI hit of the game to make it a 5-1 game.  In the eighth, Cody Lenahan broke the game open with a three-run home run. With one out in the eighth, the Bums got one back on consecutive doubles by Josh Hauser and Jeff DeBlieux, bringing the score to 8-2.

Lake Erie’s Jordan Kurokawa went the distance for the complete game victory, improving his record to 5-3. He allowed both Bums runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Kramer Champlin suffered the loss to drop to 6-6 after making into the sixth inning. He gave up nine hits, three runs, and a walk while fanning five. 

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Lake Erie Crushers continue this week’s three game set. Brian Bayliss takes the ball for the Bums and Adam Quintana starts for Lake Erie. First pitch will be at 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, will go on the air with the Budweiser pre-game show at 6:45 on 101.9FM- The Bay.
